Planning the Bake Sale
During the last couple weeks of November, Patisserie Kristie planned to hold a bake sale at school. The first step was deciding what to bake. We chose chocolate chip cookies, a flavor that everyone loves, and apple crumble cookies, our "fall-flavor-feature." Besides cookies, we also wanted to highlight the fall flavors by baking and selling apple bread.
The sweet apples we used were saved from waste. We partnered with local grocery stores to rescue overripe and bruised apples, giving them new lives to be enjoyed by community members.
To spread the word, Patisserie Kristie shared order forms with students and community members, emphasizing our motivation to support environmental causes.
Impact of the Bake Sale
On the week of the bake sale, the cookies were baked and packaged over the weekend, and brought to school on the weekdays. While selling baked goods, we connected students by sharing delicious cookies and advocating for the environment. The funds raised by Patisserie Kristie will be donated to ReFED, an environmental organization focused on research to reduce food waste.
